As a third year law student at the University of Montana, Shannon Hathaway is a huge advocate for the involvement of students in pro bono and civic engagement. The President of the Montana Public Interest Law Coalition and an officer with the Student Bar Association, she works tirelessly to promote the opportunities and need for law students to become involved in public interest law. Shannon has recently joined the WMBA Pro Bono Committee as a student liaison.
Part of her role as president of the Montana Public Interest Law Coalition is to organize the Pro Bono Fair held at the law school each fall. The goal of the fair is to bring together law students and local organizations/non profits that work with underserved populations for volunteer recruitment and community partner capacity building. Shannon’s diligent effort in promoting this year’s event made it a success with more interested student volunteers attending than previous years. She works diligently with MLSA to help develop new ideas and opportunities for student volunteer involvement and is dedicated to expanding the pro bono movement by students. Shannon is a rising star for access to justice – her passion and commitment promise a lifetime of dedication to the cause.
